Obituary: Shoemaker, Julia D.

SHOEMAKER, Julia D. Julia Frances DeLange Wilkinson Shoemaker, 93, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2013 in Pullman, Washington.

She was born to Philip DeLange and Mathilda Van Damne on October 4, 1919 in Wallace, Idaho.

Julie graduated from Wallace High School in 1937 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing with a Registered Nursing degree in 1940.

She worked in various types of nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington, St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax, Washington, and for Dr. John L. Hardy in Endicott, Washington.

At the end of her nursing career she worked for several years providing specialized nursing care for former patients.

In 1940, Julie married Fred Wilkinson and together they operated the Endicott Drug Company in Endicott, Washington until his death in 1958.

She and John Shoemaker were married in 1959 and made their home in Palouse, Washington where they farmed.

After retiring from farming, the couple moved to Pullman, Washington and they wintered in Yuma, Arizona.

Julie was a member of the Catholic Church and P.E.O.

Chapter AE, Palouse.

She enjoyed traveling, whether flying with John or touring in their motor home to visit friends.

She is survived by her daughters Kathie Wilkinson of Prosser, Washington, Meg Mishasek of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and niece Patricia Lust Johnson of Cove, Oregon; her grandchildren Damon Smith of Spokane, Washington, Ann Marie VanDerZanden of Ames, Iowa, Rachel Goette of Winthrop, Washington, Matt Honsinger of Sandpoint, Idaho; and great grandchildren Stephanie, Andrew, and Emily Smith, Nina and Peter VanDerZanden, Zoe Honsinger and Rio Goette.

Julie is preceded in death by her husband, John Shoemaker, and sister, Angeline (Nicky) Lust Fiedler.

Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery, Palouse, Washington.
