New farmers market

The Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood Council and Project HOPE are launching a new weekly farmers market starting Friday.

The market will be held Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Knox Presbyterian Church, 806 W. Knox Ave. Market vendors will include locally grown fruit and produce, fresh-baked breads (including gluten-free breads), eggs, raw and flavored honey, homemade jams and jellies and natural soaps. Area food trucks will also take part in the market.

The market will run weekly through Oct. 18. The market will accept EBT, debit and credit cards. There is more information on the Emerson-Garfield Farmers Market webpage at http://bit.ly/EGFM2013.

The market will share some resources with its sister market, the West Central Marketplace, run by Project HOPE, which strives to help at-risk youth and prevent gangs. The West Central Marketplace is held on Tuesday afternoons, 3 to 6 p.m., at a new location this year in A.M. Cannon Park, near the West Central Community Center at Belt Street and Spofford Avenue.
