Obituary: Kennedy, Marie Margaret Nooy

KENNEDY, Marie Margaret Nooy Mom passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on July 11, 2013, just as gracefully as she lived her life.

Marie was born in Union, Oregon, on October 25, 1919, to John and Euphrosena Nooy.

After moving to Pendleton, Oregon, Marie lived a wholesome life on the family’s dairy farm.

She attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated Valedictorian of her class.

There she met the love of her life, Maury Kennedy and they were married on May 14, 1941.

Moving to Spokane in 1957, together they lovingly raised six children, and provided a welcoming home for other children.

Raising her children was the center of her life and she found joy in her grand and great-grand children and having close life-long friendships.

There was always room for one (or two) more around the dinner table.

She was a true caretaker and was always available in times of need.

Her strength prevailed throughout her life and proved to be a blessing for many.

Marie and Maury were long time members of St. Aloysius Parish, where Marie managed the Parish office for over twenty years along with being a proud member of the St. Aloysius Altar Society.

In her free time, Marie had a passion for gardening (pulling weeds), playing pinochle with loved ones, sewing and quilting with the Women’s Chancery, which provided quilts for charity.

She prepared wonderful meals out of love, especially on Sunday’s after Church.

She always had a way of making home a favorite gathering place for family and friends.

Marie will be remembered by her amazing hugs, back scratches, potato salad, and spaghetti feeds.

Mom was fondly known by many names, including grandma, G. G. and aunt MeMe.

We all love and remember her favorite words to live by “such is life”.

Her great strength of character and faith will be embedded in our hearts forever.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 68 years, Maury Kennedy, her brothers Otto and John Nooy, her sister Lillian Kenny.

Survived by her children, Jack (Jean) Kennedy of Portland, Oregon, Rock (Marianne) Kennedy of Spokane, Sr. Peggy Kennedy, SNJM of Seattle, WA, Jim Kennedy of Mead, WA, Lauri Kennedy of Spokane, WA, Mike (Olivia) Kennedy of Fresno, CA, and Ron (Jan) Provinsal of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank the wonderful care she received from the entire loving staff at Avalon Care Center.

They were a true blessing by providing warmth, compassion, personal attention, and comfort to her and her family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Names, 2911 W Ft. Wright Dr., Spokane, WA 99204.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 18th from 12pm-5pm followed by a Vigil Service at 7pm at Hennessey Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 19th at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2pm, 7200 N. Wall Please sign Marie’s guestbook at: www.hennesseyfuneralhome.com.
