Obituary: Adams, Gertrude G.

ADAMS, Gertrude G. Gertrude G. Adams, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on 7/14/13.

In her last days she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and nieces.

Gertrude was born on 10/4/26 to Carl and Genevieve Hays in Eiffee, Washington and raised in Cheney, Washington.

She graduated from Cheney High School in 1943 and attended a year respectively at Washington State and Eastern Washington State Colleges.

While working at the Cheney Weeder, Gertrude met Richard M. Adams in early 1947 and they were married in June of that year.

They made the Spokane Valley their home for 58 years raising their five children with their same dedication to family, work and friends.

Gertrude’s faith guided her to a caring and loving life, always making sure others were cared for even in her last days.

Gertrude worked for the Central Valley School District lunch program, was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, belonging to the Alter Society, Phoenix Club and other church functions.

She was also a longtime member of the Lady Bug Garden Club.

Gertrude had a strong group of friends including a number of grade school and high school friends that kept in touch on almost a regular basis to support each other as the years went by.

Preceding Gertrude in death were her husband Richard Adams, parents Carl and Genevieve Hays, and brothers Richard, Jimmy and Clarence.

Gertrude is survived by five children; Linda Adams (Doug) Metcalfe, Spokane; Birk (Sharon) Adams, Austin, Texas; Steven (Pam) Adams, Spokane; Barbara Adams (Steve) Taylor, Valleyford; and Carolyn Adams (Tony) Harbolt, Medical Lake, WA.

; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews and brother-in-law Roger Adams of West Plains, MO.

The family would like to thank the Family Home Health Care aides who helped Gertrude through the last couple of years and especially our dear friend, Staci Hansen, who has given constant loving support in the care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Hospice House of Spokane.

A Visitation will be held at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home on Thursday, July 18 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 304 S Adams Rd., Spokane Valley.

Interment will be at Pines Cemetery.
