Tough road games for GU

Gonzaga University announced its 2013-14 women’s basketball nonconference schedule on Wednesday, a lineup that includes two road games each against Pac-12 and Big Ten opponents.

Gonzaga plays at Ohio State (Dec. 8) and Wisconsin (Dec. 10) of the Big Ten. The games against Pac-12 opponents are at Stanford (Dec.14) and at Washington State (Dec. 21).

In addition, Gonzaga will play in the Preseason WNIT for the first time, opening with a home game against Idaho on Nov. 8.

Newlee finalizes roster

Idaho women’s basketball coach Jon Newlee has finalized his roster for the 2013-14 season with the addition of Agueda Fernanda, a 6-foot freshman guard from the Balearic Islands of Spain.

Fernanda averaged 21 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in high school and is seen as a 3-point shooting threat.

Fernanda joins freshmen Brooke Reilly (Spokane), Karlee Wilson (Lewiston) and Nejra Solo (Bosnia) as Idaho’s incoming class.

Idaho advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament last season.

Seahawks trade down, draft San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny in first round of NFL Draft

updated  As just about everybody figured they’d do, the Seahawks on Thursday night traded their original first round pick, No. 18 overall, to Green Bay, getting the Packers’ pick at No. 27.as well as picks in the third round (76) and sixth round (186). Seattle then used the 27th pick to take running back Rashaad Penny of San Diego State, a 5-foot-10, 220-pounder who figures to compete immediately at a position of obvious need for the Seahawks.
