Obituary: Rimillard, Sofia

REMILLARD, Sofia Sofia died July 14, 2013.

She was born in 1921 in Vidir Manitoba Canada to parents George and Erana Kowalchuk.

Sofia was raised on the family farm along with her nine brothers and sisters.

She left home after graduating high school to work in a airplane manufacturing plant during the war.

From there she went to Vancouver to work in the Hotel Vancouver as an elevator operator.

She would recall with great pride taking the Queen up to the penthouse apartment.

From there she made her way to Hawaii to work in a bookstore, then later a drug store.

It was here that she met the love of her life, Earl Remillard.

They were later married on February 3rd, 1962.

They enjoyed 50 years of marriage.

After retiring from the Navy, Earl and Sofia remained in the San Diego area for 12 years.

In 1981 Earl and Sofia moved to Spokane.

They enjoyed attending the WWII Submarine Conventions, where they would catch up with their old friends.

Sofia was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Remillard in January 2013.

Brothers Tony, Walter, William, Sam, Fred and sister, Stfka.

Survived by her brother Alex and sisters Helen and Olga.

At Sofia’s request there will be no service.
