Obituary: Barnes, Janette Marta

BARNES, Janette Marta August 8, 1924 - July 21, 2013 Janette passed away peacefully on July 21, 2013.

Janette was an amazingly strong independent woman; adored, respected, and loved by her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.

Janette was born in Butte, Montana to Martin and Jennie Schlichting.

She lived there for 18 years before moving to Spokane and raising her family.

She has lived in Spokane for 70 years.

She started her working career at Nabisco Foods and later URM as the payroll administrator for 27 years where she retired in 1990.

She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, playing bridge, and reading novels (especially good wholesome mysteries).

She loved going to the Spokane Symphony, and Broadway Musicals.

Janette was an active member of Unity Church and a woman of great faith.

Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and friends traveling, going on cruises, and having good old fashion barbecues in the backyard.

Janette will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving significant other of 44 years, Bob Huffman, “Grandpa Bob”, and her three children, Jena Hollenbeck (Mark), Martin Barnes (Toni), and Steve Barnes (Peggy).

She has seven wonderful grandchildren, Major Nicholas USAF (Gabrielle) Barnes, Danielle Barnes, Tye (Lucy) Hollenbeck, Bryce (Laura) Hollenbeck, Jenae Hollenbeck, and Brandon and Brittney Barnes.

She was the proud great-grandmother of Marcus, Ethan, and Allison Barnes, and her newest great grandson, Max Hollenbeck.

The family would like to thank Manor Care for their kind and caring service they provided to their mother over the past few months.

They would also like to thank all their other family members and friends for their support and prayers.

A memorial service celebrating Janette’s life will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 11:00am at Unity Church of Truth, located on 2900 S. Bernard Street in Spokane.

This will be followed by a reception in the Church Hall.

Memorials can be made to Union Gospel Mission in Janette’s honor.
