Color, comedy and a slice of Cake
In less than a week, Sandpoint will come alive with music.
The two-week Festival at Sandpoint kicks off Thursday night with a show by the legendary folk rock act the Indigo Girls. What follows that first weekend in August will be performances by Cake and Rosanne Cash, and the annual family concert. We’ll highlight the second weekend’s events in next week’s 7.
Meanwhile, Northern Quest brings legendary guitarist Peter Frampton to town with his touring Guitar Circus show. Interplayers delves into the problem of bullying in the kid-friendly show “SuperBen!” Then the theater gets its funny on with a comedic performance of the works of the legendary playwright William Shakespeare, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised].”
Speaking of funny, the Bing plays host to the “Latin Comedy Jam,” featuring Johnny Sanchez, formerly of Fox TV’s “MADtv” and Luke Torres, who appeared on “In Living Color.”
Two musicals continue this weekend in Coeur d’Alene, and they couldn’t be more different. “Romance/Romance” at Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre tells two different love stories across the ages. At Lake City Playhouse, they’re staging “Bat Boy: The Musical,” the cult play about a part-human, part-bat who seeks love and acceptance.
But for sheer pageantry and gorgeous costumes, a trip to Julyamsh can’t be beat. The largest outdoor powwow in the region is underway this weekend in Post Falls as tribes from around the region come to celebrate their history and culture. And for a show with a view, head to Arbor Crest Winery, which overlooks the Valley, for a concert by the Spokane Symphony.
