Obituary: Miles, Lance

Age 58

MILES, Lance D. (Age 58) Lance was born March 8, 1955 and passed away at North Central Care Center on July 18, 2013 from brain cancer.

Born and raised in the Bay Area of California, Lance was married for four years to Gina Miles.

They had no children.

After the divorce, he married Cindy Munro and moved with his wife and daughter to Spokane Washington in 1991.

After various jobs in hardware stores and as a heating and air conditioning installer for Sturm, he took over his in-laws’ vending business, Vita Vend.

He ran Vita Vend for 15 years, delivering snacks, drinks and friendship at every stop in Newport and Spokane County.

He was also a much loved member of Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church and strong supporter of Family Promise of Spokane (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network).

His gentle and kind spirit is sorely missed by his wife, daughter and all who knew him.

Lance loved hiking, running, swimming and working out at Oz Fitness.

He participated in over 15 Bloomsdays, several Hiawatha bike rides and a mini triathlon.

He could repair almost anything, and was always helping others keep their houses, yards and machinery in good, working condition.

Lance is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Brumage Miles Wakeman, his father, Otis Herschel Miles, his step-father Tom Wakeman, and his sister, Cheryl Miles.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Munro Miles, his daughter, Kindle Miles, his mother and father-in-law, Sandy and Ella Munro, his two nieces in California, Roseanne Velez and Marie Velez Miller and their children, and many other in-laws.

A memorial service celebrating this wonderful man will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 7 pm at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church.

Instead of flowers, Lance would have preferred donations to Family Promise of Spokane.
