Mt. Spokane takes first loss

WALLA WALLA – No Spokane American Legion AA baseball team is undefeated in the State AA tournament.

The remaining unbeaten area team, Mt. Spokane, fell 7-6 in eight innings to Mason on Monday at Walla Walla Community College.

Mt. Spokane lost despite outhitting Mason 12-10. Blake McDonald went 3 for 3 with two RBI while Tyler Bailey had three hits and two runs. Pitcher Tannere Conroy went the distance, striking out three and walking two.

Mt. Spokane takes on Walla Walla in a loser-out game this afternoon.

Buckley-Enumclaw 4, Colville 1: Trent Buchanan hit and pitched B-E past Colville.

Buchanan went 3 for 3 with an RBI. He struckout five while limiting Colville to six hits.

Chris Boggs went the distance for Colville, striking out six and walking five. Colton Vining had two hits.

University 2, Gonzaga Prep 1 (10): In an elimination game, University outlasted Gonzaga Prep.

Brandon Melnick had the game-winning hit with two outs. Two U-Hi pitchers combined on a seven-hitter.

U-Hi now faces Eastlake, the lone undefeated team, today.

Rodeo

Ryan Gray didn’t win Cheyenne Frontier Days but he did win more money than the champion to continue his rapid ascent up the PRCA bareback standings.

The Cheney cowboy pocketed more than $13,000 at the Granddaddy of ’em All rodeo that finished Sunday when Gray scored an 91 to tie Taylor Price for the top spot in the short go-round. He also won the first go-round but finished second in the average to Price, who earned almost $1,000 less.

Combined with a title at Preston, Idaho, and placing at Sisters, Ore., Gray had a $15,000 weekend that propelled him to third place in the standings with more than $65,000, putting him slightly more than $6,300 behind the leader.

Colbert calf roper Tyson Durfey is also sitting third in the tie-down standings after winning the second go-round in Cheyenne, good for more than $7,000. Durfey has earned more than $64,000 and is less than $10,000 out of first.
