Obituary: Courchaine, Helen Doris

Age 88

COURCHAINE, Helen Doris November 14, 1924 - July 27, 2013 Our Swedish mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was reunited with her family in Heaven and welcomed into the arms of her husband, Robert, on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

Mom allowed generations to know her and love her.

Helen was born in Spirit Lake, ID., November 14, 1924.

She moved to Spokane at a young age where her parents raised a vegetable farm on Mission and Wilbur in the Spokane Valley.

She graduated from WVHS in 1942.

She married Bob on December 12, 1942.

While Bob was dairy farming, Helen was delivering milk cans to Early Dawn Dairy while on her way to work at Rena ware.

Later she worked and retired after 17 1/2 years as a cook at Kaiser Aluminum.

Helen would open her home for her family and friends to join her and Bob anytime for a meal or coffee.

She was truly a farm pioneer.

Her greatest reward in life was overseeing the activities of the dairy farm in Newman Lake with her three generations of children.

In her spare time she would travel with family and friends.

Helen’s passion in life was basketball and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events faithfully!

She was their biggest fan.

She also enjoyed dancing, the Mariners and pinochle.

Helen is survived by her four sons: Ken (Marie), Clint, Steve (Lou) and Stan (Lisa); nine grandchildren: Kari (Pete), Kristen (Dave) and Geoff, Jennifer (Joe), Megan (Jason) and Caitlin, Jared (Rebecca), Sarah and Chase; and seven great-grandchildren: Kayla, Kendyll and Zachary, Hannah and Nathan, Isabella and Alessandra.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Thelma Fitzgerald, numerous nieces and nephews including Harry Hull, Cheryl and Leanne Peters and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Ellen Johnson, husband Bob, brothers: Conrad and Floyd; sister, Anna Hull and nephew, John Hull.

Our family wishes to extend our love and sincere thanks to the following people: caregivers Josh and Carrie Allen and Gina, as well as to Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful love and gentle care given to our mother.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 3 from 3-7PM at the Rockom’s home: 14017 E. 41st Ct. in Veradale, WA.
