Obituary: Hampton, Derald D. “Yogi”

Age 79

HAMPTON, Derald D. “Yogi” Was born August 1, 1934 in St. John, WA.

His parents, now deceased, were Joe and Ruby Hampton.

Yogi graduated from North Central High School, and while playing baseball at North Central earned the nickname of “Yogi”, to which he answered to all of his life, except when he was in trouble with his mother, Ruby, then it was “Derald”.

Yogi married his high school sweetheart, Donna Petersen on April 24, 1954.

Soon to follow were their two children, Debbie and Doug.

Yogi worked 12 years at Carnation Dairy, owned and operated several restaurants, which included the famous “Beefy’s” on North Division.

Yogi also worked and later retired from Food Services of America.

Yogi is survived by his wife, Donna Hampton; and children, Debbie Pegram (Walt), and Doug Hampton (Lisa).

Grandchildren include, Amanda Adachi (Josh), Megan Hampton, and Mackenna Hampton, Shauna Swanson (Bill), Matthew Pegram (Jessica), and Krista Pegram.

Great-grandchildren include, Olivia Adachi, Noah Swanson, Micah Swanson, Isabella Swanson, Addison Pegram and Londyn Dickson.

Yogi went to heaven on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

As Donna, Debbie and I left the hospital on early Saturday evening to give all a much needed rest, I said to Yogi, “See you tomorrow morning Yogi”, to which he simply replied, “I’ll see you in heaven”.

Our family would like to thank Deaconess 10th floor nursing staff for their wonderful care.

Memorial Service to be held at Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway, Spokane Valley, WA on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
