It’s win or go home for Vandy, Tar Heels

Josh Heddinger pitched a two-hitter and Georgia Tech beat No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt 5-0 on Sunday night to force a rematch for the title of the NCAA tournament’s Nashville, Tenn., regional.

The Yellow Jackets pulled away with three runs in the sixth, including a two-run home run by Mitch Earnest. Georgia Tech (37-26) has won three straight after losing its NCAA tournament opener. The teams will meet again today for the regional championship.

The Commodores (53-10) were shut out for just the second time this season.

Florida Atlantic 3, North Carolina 2: Ricky Santiago hit a three-run homer in the seventh to help Florida Atlantic beat No. 1 overall seed North Carolina 3-2 in the NCAA tournament’s Chapel Hill, N.C., regional.

The teams meet tonight to determine the regional title.

Santiago’s blast was the first hit for the second-seeded Owls (42-21) and one of three all night. But the Tar Heels (54-9), while managing 12 hits, left 15 runners on base and repeatedly came up empty in key moments.

Oregon St. 6, Texas A&M 1: Oregon State pitcher Ben Wetzler threw a complete-game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Oregon State defeated Texas A&M 6-1 to win the NCAA Corvallis regional.

Wetzler (8-1) gave up a run-scoring triple to Cole Lankford in the first inning then settled down and kept the Aggie hitters off balance the rest of the day, retiring 26 of the next 31 batters.

Danny Hayes drove in three runs on two hits for Oregon State (48-10).

Texas A&M (34-29) was eliminated.

Oregon 11, Rice 0: Ryon Healy had two doubles and a home run to lead Oregon’s 15-hit attack and the Ducks staved off elimination for the second time with an 11-0 victory against Rice in the NCAA Eugene regional.

Eighth-seeded Oregon will face the Owls (43-18) again tonight in the championship game.

Healy went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs for the Ducks (48-15).

Healy hit his 11th homer of the year in the first inning and Oregon scored three more in the fourth on an RBI single by Scott Heineman, a sacrifice bunt by Shaun Chase and a double by Connor Hofmann.
