Suspect found dead

A maintenance worker facing charges of rape and child molestation killed himself in his car outside of Addy, Wash., according to the Stevens County coroner’s office.

Timothy D. Woodard was found dead in his car at about 11:55 a.m. Wednesday. An autopsy indicates carbon monoxide was the cause of death, though the coroner is awaiting toxicology reports.

Banner Bank has set up a fund to support Woodard’s family. Donations benefit his two teenage sons and their mother, a bank representative said.

Woodard, 48, failed to appear before Superior Court Judge James Triplet on Tuesday, prompting an arrest warrant. He faced seven felony counts for sex crimes that occurred 15 years ago, including first-degree rape and first-degree child molestation. The alleged victim was 10 years old at the time.

According to court records, Woodard worked at Burgan’s Furniture and Gonzaga University during the time of the alleged crimes.

Late last month, another Spokane man killed himself rather than face sentencing on convictions of sexual misconduct involving children. Daniel L. Camp, 33, pleaded guilty to federal charges of sharing and possessing child pornography last year, then fled from federal agents for about a month after missing his sentencing April 16.

Agents found Camp at a hotel in Eureka, Nev. When sheriff’s deputies attempted to arrest him, Camp shot himself. He died several days later.
