Restaurants aim to make detour worth the effort

Restaurants in the vicinity of the Monroe Street Bridge are luring customers around the construction with special deals.

The bridge is closed to cars and walkers through June 17 while crews build some stormwater infrastructure for the Kendall Yards development.

At Central Food in Kendall Yards, 1335 W. Summit Parkway, owners have announced a daily happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. with $3 small plates and specials on beer, wine and cocktails. Stella’s Cafe, 917 W. Broadway Ave., is reminding customers that they’ll deliver downtown. Check out the Wednesday “off menu” postings from Milford’s Fish House, 917 N. Monroe St. Recent specials have included Copper River salmon, baked oysters on the half shell and Gulf Coast prawns.

Many businesses are posting on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Maple, Post and Washington street bridges are alternative routes.
