Millwood Farmers Market names winner


The Millwood Farmers Market has selected a poster by Orchard Center Elementary School’s Ted Rogers, a fourth-grader, to be the official poster for the market this summer.

This is the sixth year the market has held a poster contest to advertise the market held Wednesday evenings, late May through September.

Rogers also won $100.

Jera Beck, a second-grader from Ness Elementary School, took home second place and $50.

CVSD debate tournament winners announced

About 180 seventh- and eighth-graders from Bowdish, Evergreen, Greenacres, Horizon and North Pines middle schools and Summit School in the Central Valley School District competed in a districtwide debate tournament May 31 at the old U-Hi.

The winners are:

Dual: Madison Pearson and Elise White, North Pines, first place; Josh Howrey and Andrew Jensen, Evergreen, second place; Kayla Wyatt and Ashley Heinze, Evergreen, third place.

Humorous interpretation: Cassie Peterson, Evergreen, first place; Maddy Walter, Evergreen, second place; Cameron Blegan, Horizon, third place.

Dramatic interpretation: Sarah Fotherington, Evergreen, first place; Laura Thomas, Evergreen, second place; Robbie Devenish, Horizon, third place.

Impromptu: Abby Groh, Evergreen, first place; Emma Stumbough, Evergreen, second place; Olivia Stockman, Evergreen, third place.

Original oratory: Joci Anderson, Summit School, first place; Alison LaFrance, Greenacres, second place; Carley Epperly, Bowdish, third place.

Top three speakers: Dakota Lovins, Evergreen; Rachel Doty, Greenacres; Josh Sims, Greenacres.

Debate: Andy Reding and Rachel Doty, Greenacres, first place; Jenna Adams and Paige VanMatre, Evergreen, second place.
