Obituary: Mcmanamon, Shirley Ann

Age 81

McMANAMON, Shirley Ann Dad lost his high school sweetheart on June 5, 2013.

Shirley was born on March 14, 1932 in Spokane, WA.

As a teenager she lived on University Road in the Spokane Valley across the street from Roy.

She had a horse that Roy used to deliver newspapers on his route.

In 1950 they graduated from Central Valley High School and were married on September 24th of that year.

For a time Shirley worked as a cook for Central Valley High School.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting for her family throughout her years.

But her real passion was taking care of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons Dennis (Joyce) McManamon and Ron (Kaye) McManamon; and daughter Cheryl McManamon.

She is also survived by her natural grandchildren Luke (Cassandra) McManamon, Craig McManamon, Kimberly (Zach) Collingham, Kati (Will) Whitlow, Travis McManamon and Lance Knoles; as well as additional grandchildren Charlie Christanson, MaKayla Christanson and Shawn (Jessica) Erickson; and numerous great-grandchildren that she adored.

Roy and Shirley traveled by car/camper (named McManamon’s neet-o- keen-o) with their family as they grew up to all but four states in the US.

They also owned a wooden boat, which they loaded with camping gear and traveled with their children to many lakes in the Pacific Northwest, which only had seventeen holes that had to be repaired creating an adventure of its own.

As Roy owned and operated Ray & Roy’s Repair and worked as an auto mechanic since high school, there was always an abundance of cars available to drive.

As members of the Spokane Lilac City Windchasers kite club they made many trips to the ocean to fly kites.

They also owned property in Northport, WA and 7-Bays, WA where the family visited often.

As their health declined they moved to Sullivan Park Assisted Living and then to Whispercreek Adult Family Home where Angela and Misti provided the best care a family could have as she passed.

In lieu of flowers, because of Shirley’s love for children, the family suggests donations to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 E. 8th Ave., Spokane, WA 99202.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14th, 3:00 p.m. at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA.
