Obituary: Mitchell, Maureen Gale

MITCHELL, Maureen Gale (Age 71) Entered into rest on June 4, 2013 in Spokane Valley, WA.

Born in Spokane on February 16, 1942 to Ralph and Margaret (Robinson) O’Connor, Maureen was a lifelong resident of the area.

In 1960, she graduated from North Central High School and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Mitchell.

A devoted Mother, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Leader and was a Job’s Daughter Advisor.

After her children were grown, she worked as a Secretary in the West Valley School District and still found time to act as State Secretary of NGAWA along with being active with the local Firefighter’s Wives.

She spent many hours volunteering for the benefit of Spokane Shriners and was proud to have been recognized and awarded The Golden Acorn Award by the PTA for her dedication and service to children and youth.

She loved to spend the winter months in Yuma Arizona and enjoyed reading and traveling.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Merri Lee.

Survived by her husband, Bill, at home in the Spokane Valley; her children, Rob, Ron, Jill; her niece, Stephani; and their families, Lisa, Jordan, MacKenzie, Tim, Tom, Devon, Corbin and Sydney.

Services will be held at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 4305 N. Division on Thursday June 13 at 1:30pm with reception to follow at the VFW 300 W. Mission Ave.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Shriners Transportation Fund.
