Wedge needs glasses

I almost spit out my Sunday morning coffee when I read the quote about last night’s game by manager Eric Wedge.

The quote was, “He is my closer. It was his game to lose.”

I’m sorry, but there are several other players on the team that played an excellent game. It belonged to them as well. When a pitcher goes out to the mound and exhibits an inability to find home plate with a telescope he needs to be replaced.

Being a closer is not the equivalent of  God.

Wilhelmsen has blown three of the last four closes he has pitched. If he cannot be pulled, perhaps Wedge could be instead, or the bullpen coach that could see he didn’t have any control before he went out there.
