Twitter welcomes @HillaryClinton

From Wire Reports

Twitter, meet  @HillaryClinton.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton joined Twitter on Monday, describing herself with a dash of humor as a “pantsuit aficionado” and a “hair icon.”

The former New York senator and first lady sent out her first tweet under the handle @HillaryClinton, thanking the creators of the popular online parodies called “Texts from Hillary.” Clinton’s initial tweet thanked Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe for their inspiration and said, “I’ll take it from here,” concluding with a hashtag “#tweetsfromhillary.”

The potential 2016 presidential candidate’s profile page on the microblogging service shows the memorable photo of a stern-looking Clinton wearing dark sunglasses and reading her BlackBerry aboard a military plane while leading the State Department during President Barack Obama’s first term. The photo was made popular by Smith and Lambe’s buzz-worthy Tumblr, which won laughs and rave reviews by pairing the photo of the sunglasses-wearing Clinton with other politicians and imaginary text messages between world leaders.

The bio ends with the letters “TBD,” meaning, “to be determined” – which could be a reference to her potential White House bid.

Prince Philip turns 92 in hospital

Queen Elizabeth II visited her husband, Prince Philip, at a London hospital Monday, where he was spending his 92nd birthday recovering from abdominal surgery.

Philip was “comfortable and in good spirits,” Buckingham Palace officials said, but he will need about two months of convalescence following the surgery. Details of his condition were not released.

The queen spent about half an hour at the London Clinic in central London.

Earlier Monday, Philip’s son, Prince Edward, made a similar visit. Afterward, Edward told reporters outside the hospital that his father was doing well.

Officials said Philip is expected to be hospitalized for about two weeks before going into convalescence.

They said the royal is “progressing satisfactorily” after the exploratory surgery at the clinic on Friday. His birthday was officially celebrated by two extended gun salutes in central London.
