Obituary: Connick, John R. “Rick”

Age 73

CONNICK, John R. “Rick” (Age 73) John R. “Rick” Connick 73 yoa, died June 8, 2013 in his home with his wife of 35 years, Candace Connick at his side.

Rick was born in Spokane WA.

on August 7th, 1939.

To Catherine and Al Connick.

Rick graduated from North Central High School and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard.

He then went on to pursue a career as a lawman.

Rick worked as a Stevens County Sheriff’s Deputy and began his homestead at Loon Lake WA.

where he loved to build on his lake home.

Rick worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a cost analyst.

He then went on to work for the U.S.

Marshals as a Federal Protection Specialist.

Rick’s last ten years were spent working for the Airway Heights State Prison as a corrections officer where he was lovingly known as “Papa Smurf”.

Rick first priority was always his family.

Rick is survived by his wife Candace (aka “Poopsie”), daughter Shasta Connick and step son Jeff (Megan) Shover, grandsons Nikolas and Tyler, granddaughter Jossalyn, numerous brothers and sisters in-law and many close friends and neighbors.

Rick was a master story teller, a great painter and collector of western nostalgia.

Rick was a patriot who loved his family and country.

He enjoyed participating in the Disabled American Vets Honor Guard.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the Spokane Eagles Lodge located at 6410 N. Lidgerwood St. at 2:00 pm on June 22nd 2013.

The family asks that in Lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to Horizon Hospice of Spokane at 123 W. Cascade Way.
