Photo: Goats at work

Kids at play: Kimberly Valencia, 5, center, and her friend Madison Faulkner, 8, watch as a goat props itself up on its pen to snag some needles off a nearby pine tree at Pavillion Park in Liberty Lake on Monday. Faulkner’s mother, Amanda, said she brings the children to visit the goats daily. The goats were in the park as part of a landscaping program by the city of Liberty Lake to rid the park of weeds. The goats eat the weeds and their digestive systems sterilize the seeds, providing a natural solution to a common problem. The neighborhood petting zoo is merely a bonus. (Tyler Tjomsland)
