Obituary: Calnon, Mark Brooks, Jr.
Age 61
After graduating from Meridian High School he attended the University of Idaho.
Though raised in southern Idaho, the Calnon family are Vandals through and through.
At UI Mark was a proud member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Soil Science in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in Soil Science in 1978.
Mark worked as a district manager at Nu Chem for twenty years.
As the company pesticide expert he was well respected by his growers and is remembered fondly by them.
Mark loved the outdoors and having adventures with his long-time companion Martha Bennett.
Together they camped, hiked and fished in the mountains of northern Idaho.
Mark enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling and planting trees.
He was a father figure to Martha’s children Jeff, Darron and Denise Bennett and a caring grandfather to Dirk, Jessica, Joyce and Cody Bennett.
Mark was a thoughtful and generous man who was loved by many.
He passed away suddenly on June 15, 2013 in Moscow, Idaho, where he and Martha were working on a new home they purchased for enjoying their retirement together.
His mother Helen-Ann Calnon preceded him in death.
He’s survived by his father Mark Brooks Calnon, Sr. of Meridian, Idaho; a sister Kathleen Kostka of Meridian; and partner Martha Bennett of Spokane.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the Fairfield Community Center, 304 E. Main Street, Fairfield, Washington, (509) 283-2414.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the University of Idaho Foundation for the Mark B. Calnon Scholarship at the University of Idaho, 875 Perimeter Drive MS 3147, Moscow, ID 83844-3147.
