(Age 84) Nick A. Compogno (84) was born to Carmine and Mary (Minetti) Compogno in Spokane, Washington on May 4, 1929 and was the fifth of six children.
He was preceded in death by both parents, four siblings (Bernie, Joe, Sam, and Marilou) and his loving wife, Agnes (to whom he was married for 60 years.)
As a lifelong resident of Spokane, Nick grew up in the Minnehaha area known as “Little Italy” and worked at the Washington Market, the Crescent store, and the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad from which he retired after 40 years of service.
Nick is survived by his 5 children, Barbara (Fitzgerald), Sam, Dan, David, and Marie (Tamura); 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his sister Lillian Aiken as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
While being a hardworking, loving, caring and thoughtful husband, father, and son, he was also a leader for his son’s Cub and Boy Scout troops, an avid camper and fisherman, and an awesome cook who loved to make traditional Italian fare.
He also served as President of the American Italian Club, Local 2172.
Nick loved to garden and would spend most of his mornings in his yard tending to his roses, flowers, and vegetables; he also loved to remodel and was always available to help with a project.
Wherever Agnes wanted to go was where he wanted to travel including excursions to pick berries, deep sea fish, Disneyland, the East Coast, and Europe.
He really enjoyed being involved in his family’s lives and activities and looked forward to holidays, special events and family gatherings bringing his fun-loving spirit and hearty appetite with him.
Nick entered into rest to be with his Lord in Heaven on June 2, 2013.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to Hospice of Spokane, Easter Seals, or the Union Gospel Mission.
