Born January 30, 1914 in Fernwood, Idaho, a three block town, known by Grace as “the center of the universe,” Grace boarded with her sister Dede at the Catholic School in St. Maries, during her 2nd and 3rd grade where she learned to play the piano, a delight to her and others for the rest of her life.
She then moved to Spokane and attended St. Aloysius School and Holy Names Academy, graduating in 1932.
She worked as a waitress at the Dutch Shop in downtown Spokane.
She met William (Bill Thielman) on a blind date, and after five years of dating, they married in 1938 and were blessed to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary (72 years together).
Her greatest joy was her family, plus her many pursuits of dancing, swimming, sewing, tailoring, music playing (piano, ukulele), singing, and cooking (“fried chicken, pies, cinnamon rolls”).
She last swam in CDA Lake at 98 years of age.
A woman of deep faith and oneness with her God, she was a member of the St. Charles Parish Study Club for 44+ years, experiencing support, friendship, community, and deeper faith in communion with that wondrous community.
In the last five years, her Northpointe Retirement Community enlivened her spirits each day.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband and dance partner, Bill, (2006) her daughter Karen at age five (5) from leukemia (1945), and her son “Patrick”/John after 5 hours of life.
She is also preceded in death by her marvelous parents, Rosa and Alfred John Marsh, brothers Ben, Ed, Alfred (Fritz), James (Jim), and her sisters Irene, Addie, Delores (DeDe).
She is survived by her sister Mary Jane Wilson, the last of the nine siblings, and by her 5 children; Rosemary Thielman, SNJM, James (Patricia) Thielman, David (Shirley) Thielman, Craig (Tonia) Thielman, Daniel (Afia/Christine Menke) Thielman, 11 incredible grandchildren who made her so proud, and 21 great grand children who delighted her spirit.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Convent of the Holy Names, 2911 W Fort Wright Dr, Spokane on Saturday June 22nd, at 10:30 AM.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
