Soldier from Kennewick killed in Afghanistan

Army Spc. Robert W. Ellis, 21, of Kennewick, was among four U.S. servicemen killed in an attack on the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan Tuesday, according to the Pentagon.

Ellis served with the 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. Ellis joined the Army in 2011 and was a motor transport operator, according to Fort Carson.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the militants fired two rockets into the Bagram Air Base late on Tuesday.
