Ufodiama fourth in triple jump

Former Washington State triple jumper Blessing Ufodiama finished fourth at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday with a leap of 44 feet, 7 1/2 inches in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ufodiama scratched her first and third attempts in the first flight, sandwiched around her best effort of the day.

• In other events: Washington runner Megan Goethals finished 10th in the women’s 10,000-meter final with a time of 33 minutes, 36.73 seconds. Former WSU star Jeshua Anderson finished third in his 400-meter hurdles heat and fifth overall at 50.65 seconds to qualify for today’s semifinals. Former WSU runner Joe Abbott placed third in his heat of the 800 meters at 1:47.31 and qualified for today’s semifinal.

Ex-WSU runner Collier Lawrence finished ninth in her heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:23.98 and did not advance.

Golf

Cameron Whittle of Moses Lake posted a third-round 81 to finish tied for eighth at 11-over 227 and was the top local placer at the 87th Washington State Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.

Peter Gullickson of Spokane and Tyler Carlson of Clarkston finished tied for 17th at 14-over at the three-day event, won by five strokes by Olympia’s Cameron Peck with a even-par mark of 216.

• University of Washington golfer Chris Williams (Moscow, Idaho) was a second-team selection on the Golf Coaches Association of America PING All-America team.

Williams, UW’s only four-time All-American, made his professional debut on Thursday and shot a 1-over 71 in the first round of the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.

College football

Five Eastern Washington University players were honored for their performances and improvements in the offseason and during spring practices.

Seniors Allen Brown and Ashton Miller were given “Iron Eagle” Awards for their achievements in the offseason in strength and conditioning, as well as in the classroom. Earning most improved awards were sophomore offensive lineman Cassidy Curtis and junior defensive linemen John Goldwire and Zackary Johnson.

BMX

National and local BMX organizations will hold free sanctioned races Saturday night at the Merkel Complex north of Albi Stadium.

The event is open to riders of all ages.

Riders should wear long sleeves, long pants and a helmet that covers their temples. A full-face helmet is strongly recommended. Helmets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Strider bikes (balance bikes, with no pedals or cranks) will be available for kids 5 and under to borrow and race.
