Shock beat Storm for most lopsided win in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Roneeka Hodges scored 19 points, Glory Johnson had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Skylar Diggins added 11 points and six assists, and the Shock beat the Seattle Storm 92-70 Saturday night for their most lopsided win in four seasons in Tulsa.

Courtney Paris and Nicole Powell scored 11 points each and Jennifer Lacy and Angel Goodrich added 10 apiece for the Shock (3-7).

Tulsa’s previous largest margin of victory was an 18-point win over Washington on May 18, 2011.

“Once we got them down, we felt like we wanted to put the hammer down,” Tulsa coach Gary Kloppenburg said. “We wanted to keep the pressure on from the beginning of the game all the way until the end. Tonight was very rewarding. This franchise has faced some adversity and it’s nice to have some nights like this.”

Tulsa jumped out to a 14-2 lead to open the game and never trailed, leading by as many as 25 points early in the fourth quarter.

“We have to survive this stretch,” said Seattle coach Brian Agler, referring to his team playing the second matchup of a span where six of seven games are on the road. “They had very balanced scoring and good depth. We stubbed our toe tonight but we will regroup.”

Tulsa won its second straight overall and beat the Storm for the second straight time after losing 12 of 13 following its move from Detroit before the 2010 season.

Tianna Hawkins, the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft, scored 17 points to lead Seattle (4-4). Temeka Johnson added 13 points.
