Bayley set for World Juniors

Derek Bayley of Rathdrum has qualified for the Junior World tournament.

Bayley shot 1-under par 71 at the Idaho Falls Country Club on June 17, finishing a stroke behind the winner. Bayley qualified for the world tournament, which is July 15-19 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.

• Junior Golf Northwest sponsored the third annual Avondale Classic tournament at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden.

There was a three-way tie for first in the boys 16-18 age division. Quinten Meyers of Coeur d’Alene, Ryan Anderson of Spokane and Pierce McDonald of the Tri-Cities each shot 84.

Sammi Jo Spring of Spokane won the girls 16-18 division, shooting an 83. Hannah Gropp of Spokane won the girls 13-15 with a 106. Jack Reeves of Sandpoint won the boys 13-15 with an 82. Nate Plaster of Spokane won the boys 10-12 with an 80.

Rodeo

Post Falls senior Jacob Paul will compete in tie-down roping and team roping at the 65th annual National High School Finals Rodeo, July 14-20 in Rock Springs, Wyo. Paul is a three-time qualifier for the NHSFR.

Soccer

Two Northwest Christian soccer players made the boys’ national stat leaders list in the Elite Soccer Report, a website that covers youth soccer in the U.S.

Jacob Weaver compiled 60 goals, good enough for a first-place tie in total goals with Connor Gilboy of Land O’Lakes, Fla. NWC’s Austin Friedly was sixth on the season assist list with 32. As a team, the Crusaders scored 132 goals, good for sixth.
