Obituary: Bryant, Frances (Monaghan)
BRYANT, Frances (Monaghan) Frances Monaghan Bryant was born in Philadelphia, PA to Margaret and Francis Monaghan on March 10, 1922. She passed away surrounded by her family on June 19, 2013. She outlived two younger brothers, Jim and Gene. Fran served as a Navy WAC during WW ll. Sharing ration coupons on her daily commute, she met and married a dashing young pilot, the love of her life and husband of 66 years, Buzz (Harold) Bryant. Fran was a homemaker and mother of five. She deeply loved her home and family; always having a beautifully decorated home. She made a loving and fun family life and always let her children know they were the light of her life. AND her cooking was legendary! Nanny, as she was known to all, had a passion for the history of the American colonial period and the cities of Philadelphia and Williamsburg. After her children were out of the home, Buzz and Fran moved to Colorado, where Nanny was proud to say she became a “jock”. They skied, hiked, camped and she enjoyed jazzercize until they moved to Spokane in 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buzz. She is survived by her five children, Michael (Beth) Bryant of Pueblo, CO, Maureen (Dan) Lawry of Boulder, CO, Stephen Bryant of Floyd, Virginia, Jeanne (Ned) Walker of Aspen, CO and Tom (Tamara) Bryant of Spokane, WA. Fran and Buzz had 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her open, loving warmth and funny, quick wit. There will be a memorial service in Colorado later in the summer. Her ashes will be returned to the parish where she went to school and where her parents are buried at St. Dominic’s in Philadelphia.
