Prugh in position to earn spot in PGA Championship
Spokane’s Corey Prugh shot a second-straight 74 Tuesday and is tied for fifth heading into the final round of the PGA Professional at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
Prugh is four strokes behind leaders Chip Sullivan and Mark Sheftic, who both shot 71 in the third round. Prugh made two birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 2 over par.
After a bogey on No. 12, he birdied No. 15 and finished at even par on the back nine.
He shot a 63 in the first round and was tied for the lead.
Prugh tees of at 10:50 this morning.
The top 20 finishers will earn spots in the PGA Championship in August at Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y.
Spokane’s Chessey Thomas shot a first-round 75 and is in in third place at the Washington State Women’s Amateur at Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club in Federal Way, Wash.
Thomas, who won last year’s Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur, is two strokes behind co-leaders Lauren Sewell and Mallory Kent. Spokane’s Kaitlen Parsons shot a 79 and Megan Haase, also of Spokane, is one shot behind. Spokane’s Kristen Hansen shot an 86 and Chelsea Baley of Rathdrum shot an 89.
