Cougars’ Kent leads Washington Amateur

Washington State University’s Mallory Kent took the lead by two strokes going into the final round of the Washington State Women’s Amateur in Federal Way, Wash.

Spokane’s Chessey Thomas is in third place and Megan Haase tied for fourth. Thomas shot a 4-over 76 on Wednesday and is at 151. Haase is a stroke behind after shooting a second-round 72.

Kristen Hansen of Spokane shot an 82 and is at 168, good for 19th place. Chelsea Bayley of Rathdrum, Idaho, shot a 94 and is at 183 after two rounds.

Baseball

Adam Nelubowich, drafted in the 18th by the Houston Astros out of WSu, has signed a contract and been assigned to the Class A Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League.

• Former WSU slugger Jim Murphy was named to the Eastern League All-Star game. He leads the league with 15 home runs for the Reading Fightin Phils, the Phillies’ Class AA affiliate.

Soccer

Halie McClure gave the Spokane Shine an early 1-0 lead, by AC Seattle scored three times in the next 15 minutes to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a 4-2 victory at SFCC. Kara Marbury also scored for the Shine.
