Twenty-two girls in kindergarten through sixth grade participated in the second annual workshop.

Kudos for projects

Students in the Nine Mile Falls and Spokane Public Schools districts were recently honored for projects focusing on environmental science at the 16th annual Spokane Youth Environmental Conference, held June 5 at Spokane Community College.

Students showcased their science projects during oral presentations or poster sessions.

Three students who earned superior ratings were:

• Travis Poppen , a junior at Lakeside High School, for his project, Sponge vs. Brush;

• Anne Kurzmann , a junior at Lakeside, for her project, Household Trash and its Utilization; and

• Rebecca Manly , a sophomore at the Community School, for her project, Vermicomposting.

The students received gift certificates to Auntie’s Bookstore.

Students from Riverpoint Academy in the Mead School District and West Valley City School in the West Valley School District also participated in the conference. All schools that had students showcase projects received grants for science programs.
