Police investigate body found in Spokane River

From staff reports
Fishermen found a body submerged in the Spokane River around 11:30 this morning and flagged down a runner with a cell phone, who called 911. The body was found on the west bank of the river near the bridge at Spokane Falls Boulevard, near Gonzaga University’s baseball field. It’s unclear whether the body is male or female or whether there are signs of foul play. Spokane police are investigating the incident as suspicious, said Det. Lydia Taylor. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday. The medical examiner is on scene. It appears the body is, or was, near a homeless person’s camping spot under a bridge.
The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
