Corps muffed decision
The environmental review process for the Gateway Pacific terminal proposal for Cherry Point in Western Washington headed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has interpreted that there is no need for an area-wide, or cumulative review process. This decision shows a short-sighted and possibly politically motivated internal corps planning process.
I believe that Spokane-area citizens care for the environment and love the web of vibrant life and beauty that we are fortunate enough to live in. I hope that we can all count on a state environmental review that will consider potential climate change results from not only burning dirty coal, but also review multiple problems for air and water quality in coal transport though our area and beyond.
I believe that the corps made a mistake and that we can correct this with citizen and government scrutiny.
