Cuddyer ups streak
Colorado Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer lined a single to center in the second inning against the New York Mets on Thursday, extending his hitting streak to a franchise-record 24 games.
Cuddyer entered the game tied with Dante Bichette before breaking the team mark with a hit off starter Jeremy Hefner on a hot afternoon.
Cuddyer’s hitting streak is the longest in the majors this season and he’s raised his season average to .346 during the streak. He is a .271 career hitter.
A-Rod says he may not play this season
Alex Rodriguez told the Yankees he is “unsure” when he will be ready to play – if at all – this season, according to a source familiar with A-Rod’s conference call with general manager Brian Cashman and team president Randy Levine.
The Yankees have refused to give a timeline on Rodriguez’s possible return to the majors this season or even specify a date for him to begin a rehab assignment.
That’s why Cashman got so upset when Rodriguez tweeted Tuesday he had been given the “green light” by Dr. Bryan Kelly, who performed surgery on Rodriguez’s injured hip, to begin playing in games.
Stabbed Red Sox fan awarded $4.3 million
A Boston Red Sox fan who was harassed and stabbed through the neck by a New York Yankees fan at a restaurant in 2010 has been awarded $4.3 million by a New Haven, Conn., jury.
Lawyers for victim Monte Freire and the U.S.S. Chowder Pot III restaurant say the jury reached the verdict in his favor and against the restaurant, which is in Branford, Conn.
Freire’s attorney, Timothy Pothin, said bartenders ignored warnings the Yankees fan was harassing other customers and trying to start a fight and continued to serve him alcohol. The Yankees fan was convicted of assault and is serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper moved up a level in his injury rehabilitation assignment, joining Double-A Harrisburg for a game at Bowie, Md., where he went 2 for 4 at the plate with a single, triple, two runs and two RBIs. … Chris Perez has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Cleveland Indians and will immediately resume his role as closer. Perez was sidelined May 27 with right shoulder soreness. To make room for Perez on the 25-man roster, left-hander T.J. House was optioned to Triple-A Columbus. … Former Phillies All-Star C Darren Daulton has been diagnosed with two brain tumors and will undergo surgery next week. Daulton, after not feeling well the past two weeks, saw a doctor who made the discovery. He played 141/2 of his 15 seasons for Philadelphia and was a key part of the Phillies’ National League championship team in 1993.
