Man faces charge in brother’s death
Two had inherited their father’s estate
The man killed Sunday near Colville had raised his arms in the air and asked his brother if he was going to shoot, according to court documents released Thursday. The answer resulted in first-degree murder charge against Eric M. Harris, 48.
Court records indicate that Harris and his brother, Larch Harris, split the estate of their father, who recently died.
According to authorities, shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, Larch Harris and his son went by the home left to Eric Harris and noticed a saddled horse. When Larch Harris tried to take the saddle off the horse, a fight ensued.
Thomas Harris, the son of Larch Harris, told investigators that his uncle, Eric Harris, then went into the home at 450 Haller Creek Road and brought out a sawed-off .410 shotgun.
Larch Harris pushed the gun away, kicked his brother and began hitting him in the face, police said. The two men separated long enough for Eric Harris to aim the gun at Larch Harris, court records state.
Larch Harris raised his arms and allegedly said something like “are you really going to shoot your brother?” Eric Harris pulled the trigger, hitting Larch Harris in the chest, detectives say.
Eric Harris is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
