No escaping the comparison
Watching the Obama administration at work lately gives one a sense of, quoting the great philosopher Yogi Berra, deja vu all over again – not the 1970s Nixon administration, but an almost contemporaneous episode of “Hogan’s Heroes.”
We see Attorney General Eric Holder as Sgt. Schultz (“I know nothing – nothing!”), President Barack Obama is Col. Klink, woefully incompetent, but proud of the fact that no one ever escapes his camp (his often-used line, “Dismissed!” is usually directed at Col. Hogan, but he seldom, if ever, utters the terminal order to his equally incompetent staff).
Thankfully, we have some intrepid prisoners (congressional investigators) and French underground (Fox News and other conservative outlets) who are trying to thwart the Nazi regime (Democratic political machine). In the TV series (a Bing Crosby production, by the way), the Nazis are seen more as lovable nincompoops than an evil gang that’s hurting more than helping their nation. Would that the similarities between the make-believe stalag and current government aren’t so frighteningly congruous?
