Obituary: Spils, Mary

Age 90

SPILS, Mary (Age 89) After having a full and active life it, is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Mary Steensma Spils.

Mary was born June 17, 1923 in Juliaetta, Idaho and passed away June 7, 2013 at the age of 89.

When Mary was four years old she and nine siblings moved to Moscow, Idaho by horse and wagon.

Mary graduated from Moscow High School and attended the University of Idaho where she studied home economics and commercial art.

Mary also was a member of the DTG sorority.

In the early 40s Mary moved to Spokane, Washington where she worked and raised her family.

Mary was often sought out at the local creamery and was later an icon of Rosauers at University City.

Mary retired and continued to be active in the community and spent many years holding offices in various youth clubs and the Women’s Republican Club.

Mary had a passion for travel and was fortunate to visit many foreign places.

Mary was preceded in death by her husbands Larry Bowerman, Ed Cooper, and Robert Spils.

She is survived by her brother Johnnie Steensma of Moscow, ID, sister Ruthe Harshman of Spokane, WA, son Doug Bowerman of Beaverton, OR, daughters Kris Bowerman Scott and Dennis of St. Maries, ID, and Lisa Cooper Chappell and Kip, Deer Park, WA, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We celebrate her life and morn the loss of a beautiful woman, Services will be held at The United Methodist Church, 113 E.

2nd., Deer Park, WA on July 13 at 1:00 pm.
