Cougars edge Northridge

Trace Tam Sing snapped a 1-1 tie with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning and Washington State defeated visiting Cal State Northridge 2-1 in nonconference baseball on Thursday.

Washington State (6-2) starter Joe Pistorese gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings. Sean Hartnett (1-0) earned his first career win.

Hockey

Erik Alden scored two power-play goals, Quinn Klimchuk netted the winner in overtime and the Castlegar Rebels eliminated the Spokane Braves from their best-of-7 KIJHL playoff series in five games with a 3-2 home win. Sean Collins and Alex Peltram scored for Spokane.

Swimming

Emma Johansson shined for WSU on Day 2 of Pac-12 Championships, placing third in the C final of the 50-meter freestyle with an NCAA B standard time of 22.97 seconds. WSU ended the day in ninth place with 54 points. Stanford leads with 491.5.
