Obituary: Best, Wayne Conway

Age 97

BEST, Wayne Conway (Age 97) Loving father and devoted husband passed away peacefully on February 18, 2013 in Spokane, WA.

He was born May 26, 1915 in Thornton, WA, one of six children of Conway and Mary Best.

Wayne graduated from North Central High School in Spokane.

He served in the US Army Signal Corps in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 - 1945.

Wayne met the love of his life, Clara Renner, on July 4, 1941 and they were married on April 26, 1942.

Following his honorable discharge, Wayne became a professional welder, proud Boilermaker and for over ten years, President of the local union.

He still had time to serve as PTA President at both Field Grade School and Shadle Park HS.

A member of the humble and patriotic “Greatest Generation”, he was the image of the classic working man.

Wayne retired in 1980 to fish, play golf, and groom the best kept lawn on Elgin Street.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Clara; son, Gordon (Katherine) and youngest brother, Glade.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Northpointe Retirement Community and Holy Family Hospital, for their love and special attention.
