Suspect, dead man have same last name

The suspect in last week’s shooting at an east Spokane home has the same last name as the man who was found dead in front of the residence earlier that day.

Spokane police arrested William G. Anderson, 39, at a home in the 1600 block of North Stone Street just after 2 p.m. Monday.

He is being held pending charges for first-degree assault, the department said.

Earlier Friday, Jared Anderson, 23, was found dead in front of the same home where the shooting occurred.

Police spokeswoman Monique Cotton said the department would not comment on the relationship between the two Andersons. Jared Anderson’s death is not suspicious, she said, although an exact cause is not known.

A spokeswoman from the medical examiner’s office, which released the name, said the cause of death is pending toxicology reports.

Friday night, 35-year-old Jeremy Paul Lambert was shot in the chest when a group of men gathered outside the door of his home at 1607 E. Pacific Ave. and opened fire. Lambert was expected to survive the attack, police said over the weekend.

Lt. Mark Griffiths said they were looking for William Anderson and a gun when they served the search warrant.

He said there were about a dozen people, many of whom were children, in the home when SWAT and police teams showed up to search the house. He said everyone in the house was cooperative and no force was used.

Griffiths said neither incident is thought to be gang-related.

Police have referred to the East Pacific home as a problem residence.

Officer Teresa Fuller said that including the shooting and the dead body found earlier in the day, officers have responded to nine different incidents at that home in the past year. In addition, there has been one medical call and several calls from neighbors about suspected drug activity at the home. Two people have been arrested there, one on a warrant and another on a domestic violence charge.
