Obituary: Haspert, Elsie Lavina

HASPERT, Elsie Lavina (Age 94) Elsie Lavina Haspert, 94, died at home on February 27, 2013.

Elsie, youngest of three daughters, was born to Harry C. Tucker and Elsie L. Shaw in Dunn Center, ND on May 1, 1918.

The same year Elsie’s father died thus she was raised solely by her mother.

Elsie attended St. Alexis School of Nursing, graduating with a BA in 1939.

In 1941 Elsie married Edward M. Haspert of Richardton, ND.

In 1951 they moved to Spokane into the home where they raised eight children and Elsie would live until her death in February, a total of 62 years.

Until 1972 Elsie worked as a dedicated ICU nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Elsie’s interests included genealogy, basketball, politics and handcrafts.

Her favorite pastime was creating rhyming poetry.

She was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Augustine’s parish since 1951.

She is survived by her children Margot Mich (Kennewick, WA), Theresa Curran (Spokane, WA), Marion Flanary (Spokane, WA), Paula Belcher (Garden City, GA), Gwendolyn Landkammer (Sioux Falls, SD), daughter-in-law Catherine Haspert (Spokane, WA), 19 grand-children, 27 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband Edward and children, Sandra Gavras, Madelyn Bunch, Jonathan Haspert and Naomi Haspert.

A time of visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home from 10am to 5pm on March 8, 2013 followed by a Rosary at 7pm at Heritage Funeral Home.

A Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church on March 9, 2013 at 10 am.
