Education Notebook: NC will rock to Elvis in ‘All Shook Up’
North Central High School drama students will get audiences tappin’ their toes to the sounds of Elvis in their production of “All Shook Up,” beginning tonight at 7:30 in the NC Performing Arts Theatre.
Performances continue Friday and Saturday and March 14 through 16. All shows are at 7:30 p.m.
The musical, with a plot from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” is set in the 1950s, in a little square town, in a little square state. It’s here that a guitar-playing, hard-working, everyday Joe changes everything and everyone he meets with his hip-shakin’ music.
The show features Jordan Leendertsen as Chad; Naomi Hippauf as Natalie; Theo Olson as Dennis; Elsa Anderson as Lorraine; Dakota Osborne as Dean; Mary Hoffman as Sylvia; Nick Fortner as Jim; Samantha Orr as Sandra; Shakyla Hacker as Matilda; Gus Johnston as Earl; and Alexandra Hall as Henrietta.
Tickets are $8 for general admission and $7 for senior citizens and NC GSL card holders. Tickets may be purchased in the school’s business office or at the door.
NWC presents ‘Treasure Island’
Drama students at Northwest Christian Schools will go looking for buried treasure beginning tonight in “Treasure Island.”
The show will be in the school’s chapel on the Upper Campus, 5104 E. Bernhill Road in Colbert, at 7 p.m.
In this family favorite, young Jim Hawkins ( Harrison Bosma), discovers a treasure map and heads out for an adventure. Along the way, he meets pirates, engages in sword fights, and, of course, runs into Long John Silver ( Evan Jarms).
Other cast members are Jeremiah Taylor as the first mate of the Hispaniola and Rachel Peterson, in a dual role as Meg and Sam.
Performances continue Friday, Wednesday and March 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. There will be a matinee show on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.
A special dinner theater benefit performance will be Saturday at 6 p.m. Cost is $35.
Ferris stages ‘Awesome 80s Prom’
Step back in time to totally big hair, shoulder pads and leg warmers with the drama students at Ferris High School in their production of “The Awesome 80s Prom,” Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Ferris Commons. Doors open at 6:45.
The show is interactive, which means the audience is invited to wear their rad 1980s gear and be a part of the prom, including voting for prom queen and king. Who will win the crown? Will it be head cheerleader Whitley Whitaker ( Morgan Kummer) and captain of the football team, Blake Williams ( Sergey Grankin)? Doubtful that it will be the class nerd, Kerrie Kowalski ( Kayla Rinaldi) or the drama queen, Dickie Harrington ( CJ Harkins).
Other cast members are Will Helman as Michael Jay; Zach Lumsden as Louis Fensterspock; Karl Cranney as Feung Schwey; Adin Haines as Nick Fender; Liz Brouwer-Wade as Melissa Ann “Missy” Martin; Cara Lyonnais as Inga Swanson; Ferris Assistant Principal Kelly Kight as Mr. Richard Snelgrove; Gabi Boettner as Mrs. Patty Lascalzo (Mrs. L.); Ashlee Karras as Heather Wellington; Hailey Mathia as Heather Wynter; Casey Moss as Joshua “Beef” Beefarowski; David Dionne as Johnny Hughes, The DJ; Taylor Anzivino as Lloyd Parker; and Bella Trujillo as Molly Parker.

STEM Night planned for Mead students
The Mead School District will host a STEM Night on Tuesday at Mead High School, 302 W. Hastings Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will give Mead students and their families an opportunity to learn about the science, technology, engineering and math programs available within the school district.
The evening’s theme, “What’s your Challenge?” will also provide information about the educational and career opportunities that STEM provides after high school. Experts in the bioscience and engineering fields will share the challenges they experience in their career and how their education helped them.
STEM classes and programs are offered to Mead students at Northwood and Mountain Side middle schools, Mead and Mt. Spokane high schools and the Riverpoint Academy.
