GUERIN, Gladys (Code) Gladys passed away on March 4, 2013 in Spokane Valley at the age of 98. She was born in Lewiston, ID on May 4, 1914, to Euclid and Minnie Code. She attended Lewiston High School where she excelled in academics, dance and drama. Gladys went on to earn a BA in Education from Lewis and Clark State College and taught elementary school in Entiat, Stevenson, and Renton, WA. Later she also earned a Masters in Special Education and Speech Therapy from Central Washington State University and taught in the Special Education Department of Bremerton, WA School District retiring in 1968. On December 25, 1938, in Clarkson, WA, Gladys married Tom Guerin, a teacher and school administrator. For 51 years they were married enjoying golf, travel, community events and spectator sports. He passed away in 1986. Gladys later met and married Bill Skhal and was blessed with several loving years with him and his family. Bill passed away in 1994. Gladys always had a wanderlust and enjoyed change. Since retirement she has lived in Spokane Valley, Sacheen Lake, and Clarkston, WA, Salem and Eugene, OR, Yuma, AZ, and Roseville, CA. She will always be remembered as a very loving aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor. She was the ultimate hostess never missing the opportunity to serve a beverage or offer a meal. Gladys often shared her fashion tips with the younger women of the family all of whom admired her style. She always had a sparkle in her eye, a ready smile and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved the scenic out-of-doors, picnics in the park, holiday celebrations and family gatherings. She had a strong faith in God, most recently having been a member of First Christian Church in Yuma, Arizona. Gladys is preceded in death by her brothers, Dale and Joseph Code, sister, Nelle Clark, and husbands Tom Guerin and Bill Skhal. She is survived by several cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be dearly missed but is now resting in peace with Her Maker. Family and close friends will hold a private celebration of life at a future date.
