SPOKANE — Police say a woman was shot and killed this morning at an apartment complex in northwest Spokane.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired and a woman screaming at the College Terrace Apartments at 4150 Fort George Wright Drive around 4:30 a.m., said Lt. Mark Griffiths of the Spokane Police Department.
Major Crimes detectives are investigating the death as a homicide, Griffiths said. The medical examiner arrived on the scene shortly after 8 a.m.
The crime scene is on the west side of the apartment complex. Detectives have placed crime scene tape stretching from Building C to a tree and have blankets shielding the body from view. The body is outside, between a parking garage and an apartment building.
Griffiths said officers are stationed throughout the apartment complex and are allowing people to leave but are talking to people as they depart. Several evidence cones have been placed about 20 to 30 feet away from the body but what they are marking is unclear.
No one has been taken into custody.
“We are very early on in this investigation but we have the resources here to find out what happened,” Griffiths said.
More information will be posted on this story as it becomes available.
