UW’s Seferian-Jenkins cited for DUI

SEATTLE – A Seattle police report on an incident involving Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins said the driver of a vehicle involved in a weekend accident had a bloody nose consistent with hitting his face on the windshield and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Names are redacted in the report released Monday by the Seattle Police Department, but a detective said Sunday that Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. SEATTLE – A Seattle police report on an incident involving Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins said the driver of a vehicle involved in a weekend accident had a bloody nose consistent with hitting his face on the windshield and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Names are redacted in the report released Monday by the Seattle Police Department, but a detective said Sunday that Seferian-Jenkins was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The school also released a statement Sunday acknowledging Seferian-Jenkins was involved in an incident Saturday night.

The police report states the vehicle was found at the bottom of a catch basin at a park near the University of Washington. The driver objected to medical care, but was eventually placed on a backboard and transported to Harborview Medical Center. He objected to a blood test at the hospital before police obtained a search warrant to draw blood.

The driver was released from police custody to remain in the hospital’s care at 3:40 a.m. PDT.

In a statement Sunday, UW football coach Steve Sarkisian said Seferian-Jenkins made decisions “that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes. He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies.”
