The Eastern Washington Eagles women’s golf team made the Jackrabbit Invitational a coming-out party on Tuesday in Primm, Nev.
Led by freshman Marissa Borja the Eagles posted their best three-round score of the season to finish second behind Houston Baptist.
Borja shot a final-round 77 for a 7-over-par 223 total and a second-place finish.
The Eagles finished with a 932 total, six shots behind Houston Baptist. The score was the fourth-best total by a Big Sky team this season and the second-place showing was the best finish in EWU coach Brenda Howe’s tenure.
Jayme Carbon tied for seventh for EWU with a 230 total.
Amy Anderson of North Dakota State was the medalist with a 7-under 209.
The Whitworth Pirates placed third at the Warrior Invitational in Clarkston.
Host Lewis-Clark State won the tourney with a 598. The Pirates finished at 628.
Junior Joey DeGroff paced the Pirates with a (71-76–147).
