Obituary: Maselli, Jack P.

MASELLI, Jack P. Jack P. Maselli, prominent Spokane businessman, passed away on March 1, 2013 at his winter home in Arizona.

Born in August 1929, Mr. Maselli was the son of Italian immigrants and spent his childhood in Mohler, Washington before entering school at Gonzaga Prep where he graduated in 1947.

He then completed his senior accounting degree at Kinman Business University in 1948.

After service in the US Navy, he returned to the Spokane Valley area to begin a successful career in real estate with Thomas P. Rose Co. After 45 years as a salesperson, broker, home builder and developer, in retirement he often said he was “…proud of the fact that real estate was the only job I ever had”.

Jack was active during these years in many civic activities and chaired a multitude of committees for the Spokane Board of Realtors as a long standing member.

In 1978 he served as President of the S.B.R.

and was awarded the honor of being named Realtor of the Year for his service to the real estate industry.

In 1982 Jack was elected President of the Washington Assn.

of Realtors and was named by Governor Spellman to a position on the Washington State Real Estate Commission in 1983.

He served the Commission for six years before embarking on a long deserved retirement.

Jack was an accomplished pilot and often flew his plane to meetings throughout the U.S. with business friends.

He was also a member of Search and Rescue using his pilot skills to help locate missing persons and planes.

Flying was his passion.

Next to flying, was his love of golf which he continued to play into his 80’s.

He was a member of the Liberty Lake Golf Club and more recently, the Chewelah Golf Club.

Jack’s life stories and adventures were voluminous and he loved to share them with friends over a glass of red wine.

He loved traveling in his different motor home R.V.

‘s through out the west and southwest and most always could be found making new friends and sharing R.V lifestyle with them at the various parks.

He and his wife settled in Arizona for the winters but returned to Spokane and Chewelah for the mild summers each year.

Mr. Maselli is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lynda.

His three step-children, Shelley Greco, Shannon Christiansen and Mark Hartfield.

His sister Isabella Spagnoletti and her son Tim.

Grandchildren Lauren, Noel, Aaron, Jordan, Gabriella, Helene, Tricia and T.J. and great-grandchildren Logan and Elliot, and by sisters-in-law Carol Jackson and Patti Lewis.

And also his devoted Maltese dog Lucca.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Vita Marie and Frank Maselli, daughter Linda Stannard and his first wife Darlene Maselli.

There will be a viewing on Friday, March 15th at 5:00 P.M. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home on Division Street and services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7300 N. Wall Street, Spokane on March 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.
