Weber tops N. Arizona for third time

Frank Otis scored 16 points and Weber State beat Northern Arizona 84-58 Thursday in a Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament quarterfinal game in Missoula.

Otis was 7 of 10 from the field for the game and had six rebounds for the No. 2 seed Wildcats, who play North Dakota in today’s semifinals. Davion Berry added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kyle Tresnak had 12 points and six rebounds, and Scott Bamforth had 12 points.

Weber State (25-5) led 36-21 at halftime. The Wildcats shot 53.6 percent from the field for the game, while Northern Arizona shot 37 percent. Weber State outrebounded seventh-seeded Northern Arizona 36-27. Weber State made 19 of 23 free throws (82.6 percent).

DeWayne Russell led Northern Arizona (11-21) with 21 points. Gaellan Bewernick led with eight rebounds.

In the regular season, Weber State swept the Lumberjacks. Weber State has won its last 12 games.

Northern Colorado 69, Montana State 56: Tate Unruh scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and the Bears advanced to the semifinals with a win over the Bobcats.

Tim Huskisson had 14 points and seven rebounds, Tevin Svihovec scored 12 including an 8-for-9 performance from the free-throw line and the fifth-seeded Bears (13-17) shot 58.8 percent from the field in the second half.

The Bears (13-17) were 23 of 28 from the line overall, going 17 for 19 in the second half. Northern Colorado (13-17) outrebounded the Bobcats 35-23. Christian Moon led fourth-seeded Montana State (13-17) with 15 points and Paul Egwuonwu had 11 points.

Northern Colorado faces No. 1 seed Montana in the semifinals.

North Dakota 69, Southern Utah 52: Troy Huff scored 15 points, Mitch Wilmer tallied a double-double and third-seeded North Dakota used a big second half to advance over the Thunderbirds (11-20).

Wilmer had 11 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and Aaron Anderson scored 14 for North Dakota (16-15), which shot 65.2 percent.
